Alma Powell Building Project Update - September 2026

Dear Northside Community,

Work continues on identifying a permanent home for the Alma Powell Branch Library, with KPL moving into the next phase of reviewing the two properties currently under consideration.

In August, we shared that KPL was moving forward with due diligence on the Cobb Street property and the Nelson property near Paterson Street.

Where We Are Now

KPL is preparing to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for more detailed environmental and site assessments of both properties. Once vendors are selected, they will conduct more extensive assessments and provide KPL with additional information about each location. This will give the Powell Building Committee and KPL Board a clearer understanding of the conditions, opportunities, and work that may be required at each site.

What Happens Next

The environmental and site assessments are an important part of the due diligence process. The information gathered will help inform the next decisions and steps as we continue working toward a permanent home for the Alma Powell Branch Library.

We know the Northside community continues to have a strong interest in this project. We appreciate your continued patience, questions, and involvement as this work moves forward.

Thank you,
